Paul Boyd has been rigging my characters faster than I can model them.  That’s probably why he’s off to join the gang down at Double Negative next week.  So having jumped ship on the course Paul has worked tirelessly to finish his commitments to any projects he’s involved with!

Thats why my unfinished robot can pull moves like this:

So all the best to Paul and his Soho adventures!

There has been a lot of progress lately.  I’ve been holding off posting because the new stuff is very similar to what I’ve shown already.  I’m waiting to post an update that will hopefully show a marked improvement over my work so far.

Here’s a pic of a slightly disgruntled Taren.  Her hair shader needs work but just playing :)

Thanks for checking by.

This is just a we post to let my loyal followers  (all 3 of you) know that I’m still getting shit done!

I’m pleased to announce that technical wizard Paul Boyd will be taking care of character rigging for TRi.  All effort at this stage is focused on getting the characters finalized so Paul can start bringing them to life !  Ewan has also been hard at work on the rifle to be used in the film.  It’s a sick looking prop that sets the benchmark for the rest of the films look.

Here are some new pics of some different areas of progress:

Some rough environment layout and blocking in:

Render testing with some more realistic eyes:

An early, w.i.p.  look at TANK ROBOT!

Texture time.

Spent most of today doing new textures from scratch.  Got a decent work-flow going now, though it still takes  a lot of time. The jacket and trousers are basically done.  I’ll be re-using these for two other characters.  Once I take care of that I’ll go in and do a final pass on them all to add a bit of personality to each costume.

Unfortunately there’s is a bit of ugly texture distortion going on around the inside leg, near the crotch.  I’ll maybe roll my sleeves up and fix the uv’s in that area.  Might not be worth it however, there are no crotch shots in this film !

Here’s an environment concept from my 4th year project.  The bottom part is the basic 3D layout done in Maya to get the perspective sorted, top is the paintover so far.  No refs so far but its a w.i.p.

Will have more bits and bobs like this to post soon, deadline is upon us !

Yes, another dude with a tache!  This guy’s a character from my 4th Year Project.  It’s a work in progress but I’m happy with his appearance for now.  I’m concentrating on my characters ‘headshots’ first.  The costumes are a bunch of sketches at the moment.  Once I have the other characters faces sorted I intend to develop what they are wearing together to make sure certain parts of thier clothing is consistent.  They will be wearing a uniform of sorts.

I really need to sort out a wacom for myself.  Using a mouse to paint this one, takes longer than it should.  Oh well, back to it !

Here’s another photo from the same session as my first post. I was mucking around editing it and I reckon it turned out pretty good. I’m just posting it to try to get into the habit of posting something regularly.

I really need to start getting busy with the camera again. The originals for these ones are pretty ropey and could do with some practice using my dodgy flashgun kit.

Thank god for Photoshop!

I opened my sketchbook for the first time in weeks recently and hope to get some interesting stuff up soon.

Some of us are just lucky…

Some of us get to work with Tony Ferreira.  Some of us get a call to shoot the pics for the launch of his new fragrance ‘FLY’.

Whenever I work with Tony Ferreira, I’m in awe of the astonishing level of professionalism and commitment he brings to every shoot.

When I asked him, “Why have you called your new musk ’FLY’ ?”
He said, “Because I can.  I can fly.”

Behold.

I later asked him if he possessed any other superhuman traits.  He nodded his head slowly and walked over to a nearby metal railing.  He stared at the railing for 45 minutes and just as I was wondering if he had forgotten the question, this happened.

Expect to see the advert this July in all major fashion publications.

Disaster Strikes 24

Recently, I noticed a little bit of bad Photoshopping in the 20th Century Fox logo at the end of some episodes of 24. Being a daily photoshop user the ‘clone tool’ abuse was pretty obvious. Now, to point it out may seem a little anal but when you consider the amazing amount of money behind the company involved, it’s crazy that stuff like this can happen.

Anyways, It got me a post on a cool website that makes a point of highlighting such goofs.

Have a look around if you’re even remotely interested in Photoshop. There are some brilliant examples of bad Photoshop on the site.

Weirdo Hello

My friend gave me a wacom tablet a few months ago.  He won a sexy new one and was kind enough to give his old one to me.  I have yet to use it, the ungrateful shit that I am!

So I persist in doodling with a mouse.  Here’s the product of the ‘mouse+photoshop’ technique.  He will now greet visitors to this blog.

Must. Use. Tablet.
