Looking back at the work I did on this project I realised I needed to loosen up. I’ve taken more influence from the original design of Kaneda and added some puffiness and badass rolled-up sleeves.

Hoping to squeeze some more time in this weekend to rework his trousers.

Time for ZBrush

It’s been too long since I’ve had time for personal work. I opened up my Kaneda project and soon found I’d completely forgotten the little I’d learned in ZBrush. So this dudes head was something fun to get back into things.

It’s been a while but I’m glad to be able to get a bit more done with my Kaneda project. After a bit of fumbling it’s nice to see the displacements out of zbrush and the normals doing their thing.

Some rough edges from the displacement are visible but should be easy enough to fix. Now just need to tweak, render and repeat my way to shiny victory!

I’ll also need to get some zips and buttons in there, hopefully that will help sell the material a bit more. It still feels a bit ‘blobby’ to me.

Playing with video.

Had a play with my baby (Canon S95) on the way home from work. Edited in a couple of hours for fun and to see how flexible the video is.

I’m looking forward to applying some lessons learned and trying to improve on these results.

Restarted the head a couple of weeks ago and much happier with the results. Done a bit of proportion tweaking, added some detail and started bashing in some more texture.

Hoping to get to spend more time after my holiday and push to get him finished off!

Here’s the latest on my Kaneda project. There’s still a lot of proportion tweaking to do but I’m bashing on with some colour to get a break from the sculpting.

Been a while…

Well, since finishing uni things have been mega busy. I’ve settled into my job and I’m ready to get back to some character work in my spare time.

This guy is the start of an Akira inspired project I’ve wanted to do for ages. I hope to create Kaneda and his famous motorbike. I’m going to take some liberties with his age and not copy the original anime design too slavishly.

Paul Boyd has been rigging my characters faster than I can model them. That’s probably why he’s off to join the gang down at Double Negative next week. So having jumped ship on the course Paul has worked tirelessly to finish his commitments to any projects he’s involved with!
